My Salvation Experiance

In 1995 was when I was saved. I was 4 1/2 years old, and even though I was young, I was still a sinner in need of Christ. First and foremost, I'll say that my parents never rushed me into anything. If anything, they blew me away because I was only a young child, and they didn't think that I really understood.
It started when my family went to a drama/play at a baptist church. I can hardly remember the play, but I remember the scene was supposed to be like an airplane. And someone on the plane has a gun and is shooting people, or something like that. But they brought a clear message of salvation. I asked questions like crazy. My mom and dad thought I was just curious and didn't really mean anything. But I kept asking questions. The whole trip back I asked questions about salvation. When we got home, my parents took me into their room and my dad showed me through the Bible how to be saved.    There at the foot of my parents bed, I asked Jesus to be the Lord of my life and to save me. Although I don't remember what I said, or even the exact day, I know that I am saved because the spirit lives within me, and I can feel him guiding me.

Questioning Salvation

Even though I knew I was saved, Satan kept telling me that I really wasn't. When I was 9-10 years old, I started to doubt my salvation. Of course if anyone asked me, I'd tell them I was saved, but there were days when I would question if I really was saved. As I went into my early teen years I really started to fret. When some of my friends, who had made a profession of faith earlier, got saved, I'd really start to question. "Did I really mean it?" It was so long ago I couldn't really remember what I said or what was exactly shown to me. I knew some people could remember it like yesterday. Some could even till you the time, place, and what they felt.
I would remember trying to tell myself that I was saved, or even saying a quick prayer to ease my conscious. I had thought the Holy Spirit was convicting me to be saved. But no matter what I did, it was still bothering me. Finally I realized what my problem was that I wasn't saved, but rather I wasn't walking with God like I should have. I was so far away from God that I had thought I wasn't saved. Now I wasn't a rebel, or anything of that sort. I still liked to go to church, do good, and be friendly. But doing good doesn't make your walk with God any better. I was far away from God in my spiritual life. Even though every morning my family had Bible devotions, I wasn't fully into it. Sure I'd read the Bible with them, but I wasn't giving God my full attention, or even applying it to my own life. I was just going through the motions and acting like I should.
My problem was that I didn't have my own Bible devotions. I didn't seek God in the scriptures. I didn't try to find and apply God's word in my life. What I needed was a more personal relationship with Christ. I realized this when I was sitting under the preaching at a youth conference. The guest preacher was Bro. Jason Gadis. He gave his testimony of how he doubted his salvation. I realized that my problem was that I chose not to walk with God daily.

Firmly Grounded

Today I try my best to have a Bible devotion daily, but not only read, but understand, and apply. Also lately I have been studying basic theology that every Christian should know. Studying through a book by Charles R. Ryrie called Basic Theology. This book is great to study questions that any Christian should know. By studying God word, I can stand firmly in what I believe in.
